about

Little Gold is a band that lives in Athens, GA. They are four fine gentlemen with a collective affinity for psychedelic pop and also punk rock. They are an insular group, but they do have some known associates, namely Odd Swan, Drum Crow, and of course Tony.

Christian DeRoeck cut his teeth playing guitar with Brooklyn post-pop punk band Meneguar in the early 2000's, and was one of the founding members and songwriters of that band's sister project, Woods. He began Little Gold in 2009, shortly after a semi-amicable parting with those bands, and released On the Knife on the Berlin-based label Adagio 830. The following year saw Little Gold coalesce into a solid lineup with the additions of Brian Markham and Pat Broderick of psych rockers Ancient Sky. Weird Freedom was released in 2011, and it marked the birth of DeRoeck's own label, Loud Baby Sounds. The band toured the US and Europe, and released a few 7"s with this lineup. In 2012, after a decade of existing as a musician in one of the most expensive cities in the world, Christian packed up his life and his cat, and relocated to Athens, GA.

DeRoeck continued to write new songs, and within the year Little Gold had a new lineup. John McLean, Taylor Chmura and Chase Merritt helped tweak the sound, and in the summer of 2013 they began working with engineer Bill Fortenberry on a new record. The result, Spectral Sight, is at once a nostalgic farewell to a longtime home and a love letter to a new one. It's an even mix of smart punk and stoned weirdness. The songs are dusted with nods to Little Gold's various influences, including Kristin Hersh (Sparks of Darkness), Dean Wareham (Tiny Hours) and The Posies (Solar Sister II).

Spectral Sight is available on vinyl and digitally via Loud Baby Sounds and on cassette via Let's Pretend Records. Little Gold is planning a full US tour in the fall of 2014.
